brighton-frocks-logo

Friday, May 22nd The Metropole Hilton Hotel, Brighton BRIGHTON FROCKS THEATRICAL FASHION CATWALK SHOW took place displaying spectacular tremendous creativity including local leading designers VERITY LAMB and SARINA POPPY.

BRIGHTON FROCKS really did manage to capture everything they wanted to and more. This show being its 5th year, starting with just a ‘one-day event’ and last year the ‘weekend event’ took place for the first time - just how long will it be before we see the ‘full fashion week’, I wonder? Anyone who thinks themselves as a fashionista, style addict, trendsetter then keep watch on this site or www.brightonfrocks.com for up-to-date information on more eclectic fashion pieces.

There is such a diversity of talent displayed here and I hope I’ve incorporated wear for all types of people.

I simply adore her backless evening wear designs.

Designer - SUZIE TURNER

Designer - SUZIE TURNER

This would look great as an alternative wedding dress. I love the oriental style satin fabric and if you put on a little bit of weight on your rear end, it doesn’t matter as the extra skirt just glides over. Absolutely femininity. Match with any dainty shoe to compliment the dress and small clutch. Hair, if not short - keep it up to show the full feminity look of the dress.

SUZIE TURNER FACTS:
Based in London. She is passionate about the continuation of the traditional skills of handmade couture and training. Trained herself as a pattern cutter deconstructing antique couture garments gaining a superb reputation with clients ranging from barristers, brides, actresses and famous models offering bespoke services. Her couture dresses have been specially made for the winning Creative Garden @ 2009 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Suzie believes “Making a beautiful garment should be an event to be relished, not stressed over”.

DESIGNER: SCHNITT

SCHNITT launched “ETERNAL INGENUE” - Luxurious, eclectic collection of day and evening wear.
The camberbund style belt breaks this outfit up. Look how easy it would be to wear this from the office through to the evening. I simply love the tailoring.

DESIGNER: PAOLA GALELLI

DESIGNER: PAOLA GALELLI

I felt a lot of Paola Galelli’s pieces were for the younger stick-thin girl. The material swished as the model walked due to the wonderful cut and design. Paola Galelli’s cut out at the rear, I adore on this. I think the whole cut out at the front on her other piece is more sophisticated if you’re a teen to 25 age group category.

Final graduate collection for 2009 “SHAKEN AND STIRRED” was displayed.
Original cocktail gowns transform into the ultimate party dresses.

STEP INTO ECO-FRIENDLY DESIGNER CHIC

CALLING ALL YOU ECO-FASHIONISTAS………

How often do I hear my ‘fashion statement’ clients say whilst I’m sorting their footwear for them “well I haven’t worn those in a while“.
Reasons are generally they’re not wearing their “on trend” designer footwear due to them being in need of repair or shabby looking from too much wear from the last season and are wanting to get more responsible.

Well how exciting to hear about creative designer Sergio Rossi eco-shoes launch on the 5th June 2009 owned by PPR Group as are Gucci, YSL, Boucheron - all promoting quality, designer wear that are specifically made from recycled leather, liquid wood and plant dyes with an eco sensitive tanner. Sergio Rossi has been assisted in the making of this eco-shoe by German Fraunhofer Institut, a world leader in research of alternative materials.

sergio-rossi-eco-shoe

No plastic in sight, I reckon they’ll have to suit the more refined clientele to begin with, who are wanting to promote eco-friendly clothing at £330. High heeled, but being comfortable and adaptable are suitable for stylish office ladies who like to get through their day with a clear conscience right through to the evening whether its a meeting at a bar/function.

I just think it would be fab to see a pair being worn by anyone in the worldwide limelight - politicians’ wives perhaps? International stars to get the ball rolling for all the fashionistas out there.

At the end of the day, it’s what I would call ‘classic chic’ and yes okay the price tag may put people off at first (isn’t everything eco ’til people starting wearing the product?), but once word gets around ladies will be happy to broadcast they’re walking tall saving the planet at the same time as well as looking and feeling good.

It’s all about really redesigning are thoughts initially and we just have to start somewhere.

…..It’s exciting, worthwhile and the way forward for a more sustainable planet.

PROM SEASON IS UPON ‘YOU GUYS’

Begin to impress guys

Begin to impress guys

STAND OUT AND STEP IN STYLE

You just know you want to look great on the dance floor and wow those girls.

Get compatible with your girl’s look only if she is worth it. Is she there on your arm just for the evening?

Go for a fashion fling but don’t sacrifice style.

TIPS

NO to a clip on tie - it’s really unattractive.
YES to wearing it undone as the evening progresses - there’s something sexy about a tie just hanging.

NO to wearing a hired suit unless you really are able to accessorise uniquely but not over the top.
NO to wearing an ancient old one eg: borrowing your father’s!!
YES try on and perfect if you feel it’s sleek and stylish.

YES Black is for class and it will go with any colour tie/camber-band.
NO to anything bright and shiny looking, I mean no illuminous waistcoats!
NO to grey suits/waistcoats - they are for weddings!
YES to some individual colour tie/shirt.
NO pale/metallic suits otherwise you’ll only end up looking like ‘AUSTIN POWERS’!!
REMEMBER, some guys will hide behind their sense of humour and lark about - they’re the losers and not funny.
REMEMBER you are wanting to portray the right image to impress - this can only stand you in good stead for the future.
YES show off confidence with being simple and elegant - a nice, clean image.
YES get your hair trimmed a week before and any facial hair trimmed.
YES wear a good aftershave after a long hot soak/shower.
YES personal hygiene is paramount.

So may I wish you a night of non-stupidity, show maturity and be totally charming.

KEEP SMILING - remember they’ll be photographs going around for years to come!

WHY NOT LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GET ON?

Marks and Spencer - Zandra Rhodes

Well M & S are celebrating 125 years on the UK’s High Street and I too believe the store will be around for a number of years to come, keeping up with the latest trends and introducing new designers to work together within their great team of people, they pride themselves on giving quality and affordable merchandise.

This store is steeped in history with so many families. I remember when only a small tot - a weekend outing with my grandmother to get a selection of knickers! She would turn to the pleated skirts they had on offer and smart chiffon style blouses, failing that she would opt for one of their suits. What I always remembered growing up, M & S had sizes for all shapes and heights in mens/ladies fashion and the staff always aimed to please and it always used to be a privilege to work there. Nowadays, I feel my grandmother would have loved the new brands that we have seen over the years such as ‘Per Una’, ‘Limited’, ‘Autograph’, ‘Portfolio. She would have still stayed loyal to her M & S in dress and food despite the wide choice that is available today elsewhere on the High Street/Shopping Mall.

This brings me to the latest collection of ZANDRA RHODES.

Designer, Zandra Rhodes, born 1941 in Kent, UK, became famous in 1977 with holes and safety pins in jerseys and known then as ‘Princess of Punk’.

Over the years, perhaps she has been famous for her prints and art detail rather than her cuts of fabric but has designed in the past for Princess of Wales, Jackie Onassis, Freddie Mercury plus numerous rock/pop stars.

Its fabulous that she’s bringing some of her glamour and drama to M & S - keep an eye on theatrical uses of colour and fiercely feminine fabrics.

2 of my favourite pieces at the moment are:

Rose Print Catsuit with metallic detail - great worn with some killer heels. £65

Flary 70s-2009

Flary 70s-2009

Spiral Swish

Spiral Swish

Sprial Butterfly Frill Trim Dress - timeless office piece thats flattering for day into evening.£59

What’s occurring?

Sorry not written on my blog for a while but I am fortunate to say I have been busy with my worldwide client on-line advice and UK appointments.

Due to the economic climate, I do feel people out there are now starting to realise to move forward, like with a lot of life changing circumstances, they have to come to terms with what’s going on around them.
IT’S A BATTLE.
Often to keep on top and to regain confidence, new clients contact me for a boost in their thinking and I discuss with them their new look that they would like to portray to others whether in their business or personal life.
