Who stays in your mind? Which model do you remember?
I remember Joanna Lumley when she acted as ‘Purdy‘ in The New Avengers (mid 1970s’). finished. She was an inspiration to me at a very young age.
Joanna in Absolutely Fabulous, so my fave T.V prog of all time - just superb and how many girls (including myself) used to pretend they were the girls? I was Patsy, my friend was Edina - ab fab series.
Now Joanna Lumley is more into politics perhaps and what goes on in the world - super intelligent, forever stylish, well mannered and an incredible icon to me.
Twiggy (Lesley Hornby) inspired me to be involved in modelling in someway. My grandmother used to often enjoy chatting how she used to dress models and Twiggy’s name used to come up in the conversation.
Twiggy is still going strong in the limelight with M & S.
Patsy Kensit, well we are about the same age and she was on the ‘Birds Eye’ frozen peas advert, which everyone at that time will remember - “when the peas went pop”! Her face seemed to never change growing up. Known for her ‘rock star’ husbands and modelling, often gets invites to T.V and is more known as an actress now in Holby City.
Jerry Hall, model and married to Mick Jagger. I always remembered her long blond hair and how tall she was.
The new generation of models - their youngest daughter Georgia Jaggerr born in 1992 is now the model at 17 for denim ‘Hudson’.
Elizabeth Hurley - well known for ‘the staple dress’ at the red carpet premier 1994 with Hugh Grant and then received the Estee Lauder contract.
Kate Moss - Topshop focused and enjoying her 11th collection there.
Fall 09 sees her collection filled with sequined mini dresses, studded jackets and faux fur jackets. There’s always a ‘vintage’ theme with her but I must stress I really don’t like the look of the ‘ripped tights’ effect! Why - to me it’s not the best look on the high street (I have already witnessed it) and it’s not a style most could get away with.
Agyness Deyn (Laura Hollins) -
She is the face for me at the moment. She can be edgy, she is sensually looking with such sophistication.
Jodie Kidd - known as model and Strictly Come Dancing personality. Naturally beautiful features - a softness about her.
Naomi Campbell - mmm… signed with Elite Models and looks great now but I was never, I have to say a fan and that wasn’t to do with her modelling. Her life has seen her the centre piece and she has been involved in high profile advertising campaigns. Not many achieve as much as she already has and she will continue to do exceptionally well.
Sophie Dahl - Roald Dahl’s granddaughter but also a best selling novelist herself. From modelling with those striking eyes to her love of food takes her to…
a new food programme (yes another one!) with each episode focusing on different themes with her revisiting food nostalgia and explaining what each recipe means to her.
Elle Macpherson born in Sydney but adores living in London. She actually never intended to become known for her modelling as this initially was to see her through her university days. Her business is ‘Intimates’ lingerie.
Erin O’Connor - figurehead for Model rights and Vice Chair for British Fashion Council. Known also for the 1st ‘celebrity blog’ in Vogue.com.
I hope the next generation of models give us as much inspiration in the future for fashion to be worn by each and everyone of us.
