What were you wearing this weekend?

Filed under: FASHION AROUND THE GLOBE, Fashion — Tags: , , — Michelle @ 9:21 pm

I would love to hear from people as to what you were wearing at the Reading/Leeds festivals as well as London’s Notting Hill carnival this weekend.

As you know, I don’t just stop in UK, what have people been wearing around the rest of the world.

Come on……..I want to hear. Perhaps send me some of your pics and I’ll feature them on my blog next week.

Many thanks

Fashion Faces

Who stays in your mind? Which model do you remember?

I remember Joanna Lumley when she acted as ‘Purdy‘ in The New Avengers (mid 1970s’). finished. She was an inspiration to me at a very young age.

Joanna in Absolutely Fabulous, so my fave T.V prog of all time - just superb and how many girls (including myself) used to pretend they were the girls? I was Patsy, my friend was Edina - ab fab series.

Now Joanna Lumley is more into politics perhaps and what goes on in the world - super intelligent, forever stylish, well mannered and an incredible icon to me.

Twiggy (Lesley Hornby) inspired me to be involved in modelling in someway. My grandmother used to often enjoy chatting how she used to dress models and Twiggy’s name used to come up in the conversation.

Twiggy is still going strong in the limelight with M & S.

Patsy Kensit, well we are about the same age and she was on the ‘Birds Eye’ frozen peas advert, which everyone at that time will remember - “when the peas went pop”! Her face seemed to never change growing up. Known for her ‘rock star’ husbands and modelling, often gets invites to T.V and is more known as an actress now in Holby City.

Jerry Hall, model and married to Mick Jagger. I always remembered her long blond hair and how tall she was.

The new generation of models - their youngest daughter Georgia Jaggerr born in 1992 is now the model at 17 for denim ‘Hudson’.

Elizabeth Hurley - well known for ‘the staple dress’ at the red carpet premier 1994 with Hugh Grant and then received the Estee Lauder contract.

Kate Moss - Topshop focused and enjoying her 11th collection there.

Fall 09 sees her collection filled with sequined mini dresses, studded jackets and faux fur jackets. There’s always a ‘vintage’ theme with her but I must stress I really don’t like the look of the ‘ripped tights’ effect! Why - to me it’s not the best look on the high street (I have already witnessed it) and it’s not a style most could get away with.

Agyness Deyn (Laura Hollins) -
She is the face for me at the moment. She can be edgy, she is sensually looking with such sophistication.

Jodie Kidd - known as model and Strictly Come Dancing personality. Naturally beautiful features - a softness about her.

Naomi Campbell - mmm… signed with Elite Models and looks great now but I was never, I have to say a fan and that wasn’t to do with her modelling. Her life has seen her the centre piece and she has been involved in high profile advertising campaigns. Not many achieve as much as she already has and she will continue to do exceptionally well.

Sophie Dahl - Roald Dahl’s granddaughter but also a best selling novelist herself. From modelling with those striking eyes to her love of food takes her to…

a new food programme (yes another one!) with each episode focusing on different themes with her revisiting food nostalgia and explaining what each recipe means to her.

Elle Macpherson born in Sydney but adores living in London. She actually never intended to become known for her modelling as this initially was to see her through her university days. Her business is ‘Intimates’ lingerie.
Erin O’Connor - figurehead for Model rights and Vice Chair for British Fashion Council. Known also for the 1st ‘celebrity blog’ in Vogue.com.

I hope the next generation of models give us as much inspiration in the future for fashion to be worn by each and everyone of us.

How to look ‘A’ List like……

British Model and singer Agyness Deyn tipped as being the next great supermodel.

She is stunningly beautiful, a natural and what I really l like about her style is she never keeps to one look.

A ‘rock chic’ look. Recently at the NY Premiere Inglorious Basterds by Quentin Tarantino she was photographed wearing a vintage rock shirt and leather ‘above the knee’ skirt holding a red clutch.

Be in front on the red carpert with next season’s Black and Red trend.

Here I’ve selected a red and black skull Tee from Top Shop

And a leather skirt from Warehouse

TIP:
Wear with a trilby and ankle boots with a satin style jacket.

Carvela Ankle Boots

Ted Baker Trilby

so to complete the look a ‘timeless’ piece - Coast stretch element sateen jacket.

TIP

You may have already have similar items in your wardrobe. I just think the jacket gives a finished ’stylish’ look and of course the Trilby whether red or black gives the ‘on trend’ appeal.
Wear a longer length leather skirt too if your legs are not your best feature.

How to feel like a celebrity

Allison, a nurse experienced a great time being styled and photographed in a friendly professional manner.

She had low self esteem, hated how she looked, didn’t know how to make the best out of her body and wanted people to recognise her in a different way.

Allison’s makeover

. A consultation from an expert to discuss outfits, etc.
. A before photograph

2009_08_22_alison_before_002

Allison is used to wearing a uniform and when she returns home basically lives in PJ’s! Going out is generally jeans and T-shirt. Feels she is too tall and never wears heels!

. 4 different looks were styled

2009_08_21_makeover_small_023

Allison loved this vibrant blue hue.
A corset waisted belt turned this simple piece of fabric into another ‘club’ outfit. Something Allison never dreamed of putting together and really makes the most of her tiny waist.
It can be worn with opague tights/leggings.

When Allison looked at herself in the mirror, she wasn’t comfortable with her figure at first.

The scarlet hue really suits her colouring.
Amy Winehouse is one of her style icons so she will have to incorporate some shades of red into her wardrobe on her ‘wardrobe makeover’ session.

Here’s another 2 confident poses:
2009_08_21_makeover_small_137
2009_08_21_makeover_small_094

I am so glad she wore this as it’s so comfortable to wear and would look great with some gladiators. The cut of the jersey material is brilliant for hiding that hip and tum area, jersey is normally something not to be worn if those areas are best not accentuated too much. In this case because of the design - it really worked.

2009_08_21_makeover_small_176

Lights, camera, action.

Allison was really enjoying her experience and already so many photographs with different poses had been taken for her to choose.

Allison would never have dreamed of putting this look together and loved it once again.

A studded leather jacket, fishnet leggings and a classic black dress to accentuate her best features. High heels and large Sophia Loren style glasses finished this look.
A ‘Glam Rock’ look.

Vintage Theme

2009_08_21_makeover_small_273

A corset (normally Allison would wear this just with her jeans) - her old ‘comfort zone’.
Beautiful look with a ‘lace trimmed’ pencil skirt.
Pearl necklace and beads.
I wanted to go further with oyster satin gloves and knee high socks and stilettoes.

She can’t wait to party with this sophisticated on trend vintage look. It made her feel especially romantic.
Her fave look finished her styling and photo makeover experience.

All that was to be done was to choose from the numerous photographs taken.

Allison wanted to leave a message:

“I have so much to take away with me and I must say thanks to everyone on the team for making me feel so special”
